POWER OUTAGE INFO

Our windy season is October - April although we can experience power outages at any time. To help you enjoy your stay, we have taken many steps to minimize the impact.

It is a good idea to bring at least one or two meals that are easy to either cook or reheat in a single pot.

All of our cabins have back up batteries (see below) which are capable of powering low-wattage items for many hours, including:

  • lamps

  • charging for laptops and cell phones

  • StarLink internet router

Coffee can be prepared without a drip machine - we provide stove top Moka Pots, French press and stove top percolators in the cabins to ensure you get your caffeine fix no matter what!

Below are the facilities available in the event of a power outage.

BACK UP BATTERIES

Our cabins are equipped with either Duracell PowerSource or Bluetti back-up batteries. These batteries are located generally in the living room and in each bedroom.  In the event of a power outage, this battery will provide power to whatever is plugged into it - generally a couple of lamps, clock, etc.  You can also charge your laptops and phones with it.  Running low-energy items on these power blocks is possible for up to 24 hours.

Please be aware though of the limitations of these units.  They are not designed to power things like heaters, hair dryers, microwave, etc.  For example, charging phones and laptops in addition to a couple of high-efficiency bulbs will last 3 days but plug a microwave in and the battery will be dead in 15 minutes.  Be selective with what you use the battery for!

Most of our power outages are not more than 4 hours.  These power blocks, in addition to our propane heating sources and alternative cooking options ensure our guests will continue to have light, heat and a way too cook regardless of electricity.

A great way to enjoy your off-grid experience would be to enjoy a board game, tell stories, experiment with camp cooking, etc.  Make it an adventure!

There are times when the internet goes down independently of a power outage, or at the same time as a power outage, due to damage of a fiber optic line or other equipment failure.  We do not have any control over this and make no guarantees of internet coverage.

Backup Battery

All of our cabins also have rechargeable flashlights and lanterns located throughout the cabin.

Because we guarantee heat, light and a way to cook in the event of a power outage, we are no longer offering refunds for power outages unless one of the following things happen: primary source of heat fails, cooking option fails (except for Tahoma Vista which has not emergency heat source currently).

Please see our Policies page for more information.
